Benchmark's handheld homogenizer, the D1000, is designed to rapidly homogenize, emulsify, suspend, and disrupt biological samples. It works effectively with samples ranging from 0.1 ml to 250 ml, depending on the generator probe used. The D1000 functions as a rotor stator homogenizer, drawing liquid samples into the generator probe with its variable speed rotor and forcing them out through the stator slots, achieving mechanical shearing. Most samples are completely homogenized in 30 seconds or less. A powerful 130W motor drives the rotor at speeds adjustable from 8,500 to 30,000 RPM in six steps, tailored to different sample processing needs, with a separate on/off switch for maintaining the desired setting. The stainless steel generator probes are available in four sizes: the 5 mm and 7 mm diameter probes, each 50 mm in length for use with microtubes; a 10 mm x 115 mm probe suitable for 15 ml and 50 ml tubes; and a 14 mm x 130 mm probe for 50 ml tubes and vessels up to 250 ml. The unit comes with one each of the 5 mm and 7 mm generator probes, and an optional stand is available for hands-free operation.
