Springer Controls manufactures a complete line of IEC enclosed AC motor starters up to 60HP or 80A. The assembled motor starters include a contactor, an overload relay, and a NEMA 4X rated polycarbonate enclosure. To select the appropriate starter, it is essential to verify the full load amperage (FLA) from the motor or equipment nameplate at the input voltage, determining whether the setup is single-phase or three-phase power. The starter should be rated for current (amps) higher than the FLA. The control power needed to close the contactor must be chosen, followed by selecting the overload by choosing a current range that includes the FLA. Options for selection include incoming power, which can be categorized as a "direct-online starter" if the line power is used as control power, or "separate control voltage" if they differ, along with options for "remote start terminals" if activation occurs from an external switch.
