To select the appropriate starter, first verify the full load amperage (FLA) at the input voltage from the motor or equipment nameplate, ensuring to identify if it operates on 1-phase or 3-phase power. Choose a starter with a current rating higher than the FLA. Next, determine the control power needed for the contactor, and select an overload relay with a current range that accommodates the FLA of the motor. Optional criteria for selection include the type of incoming power; this can be "direct-online" if line power serves as control power, or "separate control voltage" when different voltages are used. For activation from an external switch, options include "remote start terminals," which allow for external control while maintaining the same line and control voltage, or "separate control voltage + remote start terminals" for differing voltages.
