To select the appropriate starter, it is essential to first verify the full load amperage (FLA) from the motor or equipment nameplate based on the input voltage supplied, ensuring to identify whether it is single-phase or three-phase power. Choose a starter rated for current (amps) higher than the FLA of the motor and select the control power used to close the contactor. The overload should be chosen by selecting a current range that encompasses the FLA determined earlier. The optional criteria to finalize the starter include the incoming power type: if the line power is used as the control power, it is a "direct-online starter," while differing line and control voltages are categorized as "separate control voltage." For activation from an external switch, remote start terminals can be added, assuming line and control voltages are the same, or if they differ, referred to as "separate control voltage + remote start terminals."
