Springer Controls manufactures a complete line of IEC enclosed AC motor starters with specifications for applications up to 60HP or 80A. The assembled motor starters include a contactor, overload relay, and a NEMA 4X rated polycarbonate enclosure. To correctly select the motor starter, one must refer to the motor or equipment nameplate to verify the full load amperage (FLA) at the supplied input voltage, confirming whether it is single-phase or three-phase. It is essential to choose a starter rated for a current (amps) higher than the FLA. The selection process also involves determining the control power used to close the contactor and selecting an overload by choosing a current range that encompasses the FLA. Additional criteria include identifying the type of incoming power: a "direct-online starter" for matching line and control voltages, or the option for "separate control voltage" if there’s a difference. Moreover, if activation from an external switch is required, the starter can be configured with "remote start terminals."
