Springer Controls manufactures a complete line of IEC enclosed AC motor starters up to 60HP or 80A. The assembled motor starters include a contactor, overload relay, and a NEMA 4X rated polycarbonate enclosure. To select the appropriate starter, first verify the full load amperage (FLA) at the input voltage from the motor or equipment nameplate, ensuring whether the power supply is 1-phase or 3-phase. Choose a starter rated for current higher than the FLA. Next, select the control power used to close the contactor and pick an overload that encompasses the FLA determined previously. Optional selection criteria include the type of incoming power, which may be direct-online if line power is used as the control power, or separate control voltage if they differ. Remote start terminals can be included for activation from an external switch, with specific arrangements depending on whether the line and control voltages are the same or different.
