Springer Controls manufactures a complete line of IEC enclosed AC motor starters capable of handling up to 60HP or 80A. The assembled motor starters consist of a contactor, overload relay, and a NEMA 4X rated polycarbonate enclosure. To select the proper starter, it is essential to verify the full load amperage (FLA) at the input voltage from the motor or equipment nameplate, confirm whether it is single-phase or three-phase power, and choose a starter rated for current higher than the FLA. The control power used to close the contactor and the overload must be selected based on a current range that includes the FLA. Options to consider when selecting a starter include the incoming power configuration—whether the line power will also be the control power (direct-online starter) or if separate control voltage is needed. For external activation, additional terminals for control power input can be added, referred to as remote start terminals, with the additional consideration of separate control voltage if differing voltages are required.
