Benchmark offers a diverse selection of bead homogenization options tailored for various sample types, with specific bead materials and sizes designed to optimize homogenization efficiency. Silica (glass) homogenizer beads, available in diameters of 0.1mm, 0.5mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, 3mm, and 6mm, are acid washed, heat treated, and certified nuclease and protease free, making them suitable for a range of applications from homogenizing Gram positive and negative bacteria to tougher tissues like heart and lung samples. The 0.1mm diameter beads are ideal for bacteria, while 0.5mm beads are recommended for fungi, spores, molds, and small yeasts. For larger samples, 1.0mm beads can be used for fungi and algae, with 1.5mm and 3mm beads suitable for soft tissues and harder tissues, respectively. Stainless steel homogenizer beads in 2.8mm and 5mm sizes are also available, offering denser options for harder samples and dry grinding, all of which are alcohol washed and heat treated. Certain complex samples may benefit from a combination of beads, such as garnet shards with 6mm zirconium satellites for collagen-rich samples or a mix of different silica and zirconium beads for fecal and soil samples. All beads and shards undergo rigorous acid washing and heat treatment to ensure they are free from contaminants.
