The Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 conductors are solid type, black, 10 gauge building wires designed for commercial or industrial applications according to the 2008 National Electrical Code. These conductors are primarily used in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits. They are suitable for use in dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90 °C when used as THHN or T90 nylon conductors. As THWN-2 or TWN75, they can be used in wet or dry locations at the same temperature limit or up to 75 °C when exposed to oil. For applications as MTW, they can withstand temperatures up to 60 °C in wet locations or 90 °C in dry locations, with ampacity limited to that of 75 °C conductors per NFPA 79. The conductors can attain temperatures up to 105 °C in dry locations when rated AWM and used as appliance wiring material or with T90 nylon. All variants support a voltage of 600 volts and can be installed without pulling lubricant. These conductors meet or exceed ASTM specifications, UL standards 83 and 1581, UL standard 1063 (for MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90 °C, and federal specification A-A-59544. They comply with VW-1 for sizes 14 through 1 AWG and CT for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger; FT1 ratings apply to sizes through 500 KCMIL. The T90 nylon and TWN 75 variants are rated for sizes through 500 KCMIL and are RoHS compliant and sunlight resistant, marked and listed in all colors 2 AWG and larger. The construction consists of annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strand, insulated with a heat and moisture-resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and jacketed with a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or an equivalent UL recognized material.
