The THHN 8 gauge building wire is a stranded type conductor primarily used in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications as specified in the 2008 National Electrical Code. When utilized as type THHN, the T90 nylon conductor is suitable for dry locations with a maximum temperature of 90 °C. The type THWN-2 or TWN75 version is appropriate for both wet and dry locations, adhering to the same temperature limits, with an additional permissible limit of 75 °C when exposed to oil. As type MTW, the conductor is rated for wet locations or environments exposed to oil, with temperature specifications not exceeding 60 °C for wet locations and 90 °C for dry locations, while ampacity is limited according to NFPA 79 guidelines. The conductor can withstand temperatures up to 105 °C in dry settings when rated AWM or used as T90 nylon, with a voltage rating of 600 volts, eliminating the need for pulling lubricant during installation. This wire meets or exceeds all applicable ASTM specifications, UL standard 83, UL 1581, UL standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90 °C, and federal specification A-A-59544, and complies with VW-1 for sizes 14 through 1 AWG, CT per UL 1685 for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger, FT1 for sizes through 500 kcmil, and is ROHS compliant and sunlight resistant, marked and listed in all colors 2 AWG and larger. The Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 or MTW conductors are made of annealed (soft) copper with unilay compressed strands, insulated with a durable heat and moisture-resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and covered with a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or an equivalent UL recognized jacket.
