TFFN 18 gauge building wire is a stranded type wire available in red, designed for various applications including fixture wiring, machine tool wiring, and appliance wiring material in accordance with the 2008 National Electrical Code. When utilized as type TFFN, the conductor is suitable for temperatures not exceeding 90°C, while as type MTW it is suitable for wet locations or exposure to oil or coolant at temperatures not exceeding 60°C, or in dry locations up to 90°C with ampacity limited to that for a 75°C conductor temperature per NFPA 79. Conductor temperatures can reach up to 105°C in dry locations when rated AWM and used for appliance wiring. All applications support a voltage of 600 volts. The specifications indicate that Southwire type TFFN or MTW or AWM meets or exceeds UL standard 66 and National Electrical Code requirements, and the wire is ROHS compliant. The construction features annealed (soft) copper conductors insulated with a durable, heat, and moisture-resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), topped with a nylon (polyamide) jacket for additional protection. The wire is available in a wide range of colors, including black, white, red, blue, green, yellow, orange, brown, purple, gray, and pink, with some colors being standard and others subject to economic order quantity. It is also oil and gasoline resistant as defined by Underwriters Laboratories.
