Thhn 6 gauge building wire, stranded type, orange is designed primarily for use in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications as specified in the 2008 National Electrical Code. This wire, when used as type THHN or T90 nylon conductor, is suitable for dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90 °C. As type THWN-2 or TWN75, it is appropriate for both wet and dry locations at temperatures up to 90 °C or 75 °C when exposed to oil. In MTW application, it can be used in wet locations or exposed to oil at temperatures not exceeding 60 °C, or in dry locations up to 90 °C, with ampacity limited to that for 75 °C conductor temperature per NFPA 79. The conductor can reach temperatures of 105 °C in dry locations when rated AWM and used as appliance wiring material or T90 nylon. The cable has a voltage rating of 600 volts and can be installed without pulling lubricant. It meets or exceeds all applicable ASTM specifications, UL Standard 83, UL 1581, UL Standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90° C, Federal Specification A-A-59544, and National Electrical Code requirements. Additionally, it has VW-1 ratings for sizes 14 through 1 AWG CT, UL 1685 for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger for CT use, FT1 ratings for sizes through 500 KCMIL, and is RoHS compliant and sunlight resistant, marked and listed in all colors for sizes 2 AWG and larger. The construction consists of annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strands, insulated with tough heat and moisture resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and sheathed with a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or an equivalent UL recognized jack.
