The THHN 6 gauge building wire is a stranded type in blue, designed for use in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications as specified in the 2008 National Electrical Code. This wire, categorized under Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2, is suitable for dry locations at temperatures not to exceed 90 °C when used as type THHN. It can also be used in wet or dry locations at the same temperature limit or 75 °C when exposed to oil as type THWN-2 or TWN75. When utilized as type MTW, it is suitable for wet locations or when exposed to oil at temperatures not exceeding 60 °C, or dry locations up to 90 °C with ampacity limited to that of a 75 °C conductor per NFPA 79. The conductor may withstand temperatures of up to 105 °C in dry locations when rated AWM and used as appliance wiring material. It has a voltage rating of 600 volts and can be installed without pulling lubricant. The wire meets or exceeds all applicable ASTM specifications, UL Standard 83, UL 1581, UL Standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90 °C, federal specification A-A-59544, and National Electrical Code requirements. It also meets VW-1 standards for sizes 14 through 1 AWG CT, UL 1685 for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger, and FT1 for sizes through 500 KCMIL. The wire is RoHS compliant and sunlight resistant, marked and listed in all colors for sizes 2 AWG and larger. The construction includes annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strand, insulated with a heat and moisture resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and jacketed with a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or an equivalent UL recognized material.
