The THHN 6 gauge building wire is a stranded type conductor in red, designed primarily for applications in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial settings as per the 2008 National Electrical Code. This wire can be utilized in dry locations at temperatures up to 90 °C when rated as THHN, while THWN-2 allows for use in both wet and dry environments at the same maximum temperature, or 75 °C when exposed to oil. As type MTW, it is suitable for wet locations or when oil-exposed, with a maximum operational temperature of 60 °C in wet areas or 90 °C in dry locations, although ampacity is limited to that for 75 °C conductors per NFPA 79. The wire supports a voltage of 600 volts and can be installed without pulling lubricant. It meets or exceeds all relevant ASTM specifications, UL standard 83, UL 1581, UL standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE ratings for 90 °C, Federal specification A-A-59544, and National Electrical Code requirements. Specific certifications include VW-1 for sizes 14 through 1 AWG, CT for UL 1685 (sizes 1/0 AWG and larger), FT1 for sizes up to 500 kcmil, T90 nylon, and TWN 75, all through sizes up to 500 kcmil with RoHS compliance and sunlight resistance for cables marked and listed in all colors from 2 AWG and larger. The construction features annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strands, insulated with durable heat and moisture resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC) overlaid with a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or an equivalent UL recognized jacket.
