Thhn 6 gauge building wire, stranded type, gray, is designed for use in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications, conforming to the 2008 National Electrical Code. The Southwire Simpull THHN or THWN-2 conductors can be used in dry locations at temperatures not to exceed 90 °C when used as type THHN, while the THWN-2 or TWN75 types are applicable for both wet and dry locations, adhering to a maximum temperature of 90 °C or 75 °C when exposed to oil. When applied as type MTW, these conductors are suitable for both wet locations and oil exposure at temperatures not to exceed 60 °C, or in dry locations up to 90 °C, with ampacity limited to that of 75 °C conductors per NFPA 79. The conductors can handle up to 105 °C in dry locations when rated AWM and used as appliance wiring material or with T90 nylon, and support a voltage of 600 volts without requiring pulling lubricant. Southwire Simpull THHN or THWN-2 or MTW (also AWM) comply with relevant ASTM specifications, UL Standard 83, UL 1581, UL Standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90 °C, Federal Specification A-A-59544, and meet NEC requirements. It has VW-1 ratings for sizes 14 through 1 AWG, CT classifications per UL 1685 for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger, FT1 ratings for sizes through 500 KCMIL, and is RoHS compliant and sunlight resistant for sizes 2 AWG and larger. The construction consists of annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strand, insulated with a durable heat and moisture resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and features a SIM (SlikQwik infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or UL recognized equal jacket.
