Assembled motor starters include a contactor, overload relay, and a NEMA 4X rated polycarbonate enclosure. To select the appropriate starter, verify the full load amperage (FLA) from the motor or equipment nameplate at the input voltage, ensuring to confirm whether it is 1 phase or 3 phase power. Choose a starter rated for current higher than the FLA. The control power for the contactor must also be selected, and the overload should be chosen based on a current range that encompasses the FLA. Optional criteria include selecting the incoming power type, with options for direct-online starter, separate control voltage, or configurations with remote start terminals.
