Springer Controls manufactures a complete line of IEC enclosed AC motor starters capable of supporting motors up to 60HP or 80A. Each assembled motor starter includes a contactor, an overload relay, and a NEMA 4X rated polycarbonate enclosure. To select the appropriate starter, first refer to the motor or equipment nameplate to verify the full load amperage (FLA) at the input voltage required, confirming whether the motor operates on 1-phase or 3-phase power. Choose a starter rated for current (amps) above the FLA. Next, decide on the control power used to engage the contactor, and select the overload by choosing a current range that includes the motor's FLA. Options to further refine your starter selection include determining the incoming power; if line power is also used as control power, this is known as a "direct-online starter." If the control voltage differs from line voltage, it is classified as "separate control voltage." For activation from an external switch, add terminals for control power input, referred to as "remote start terminals," and if using different voltages for line and control power, specify "separate control voltage + remote start terminals." Key features of the motor starter include a 12A 3-phase separate coil voltage for start/stop, a coil rated for 250-500V AC/DC, and an overload range of 2.3-3.1A, all housed within a NEMA 4X polycarbonate enclosure.
