Springer Controls manufactures a complete line of IEC enclosed AC motor starters designed for applications up to 60HP or 80A. Each assembled motor starter includes a contactor, overload relay, and a NEMA 4X rated polycarbonate enclosure. To select the appropriate starter, users should first refer to the motor or equipment nameplate to confirm the full load amperage (FLA) at the specified input voltage, and determine if the motor operates on 1 phase or 3 phase power. It is important to choose a starter rated for current (amps) that exceeds the FLA. The control power needed to operate the contactor must also be specified, along with selecting an overload current range that encompasses the motor's FLA. Additional criteria for selection include the consideration of incoming power—whether a "direct-online starter" is used when the line power also serves as control power, or "separate control voltage" when different voltages are in play. For scenarios requiring activation from an external switch, remote start terminals can be included.
