Springer Controls manufactures a complete line of IEC enclosed AC motor starters suitable for motors up to 60HP or 80A. Each assembled motor starter includes a contactor, an overload relay, and a NEMA 4X rated polycarbonate enclosure. To select the appropriate starter, it is essential to verify the full load amperage (FLA) from the motor nameplate at the input voltage supply while confirming whether the motor operates on 1-phase or 3-phase power. Choose a starter rated for current (amps) higher than the FLA of the motor. The control power for closing the contactor must also be selected, followed by choosing the overload based on a current range that encompasses the FLA determined earlier. Optional features include incoming power configurations, which can be a "direct-online starter" where line power is also used as control power, or "separate control voltage." If activation from an external switch is required, remote start terminals can be added to accept control power input from that switch. Key specifications include a maximum rating of 12A for 3-phase applications, separate coil voltage with remote start terminals, start/stop functionality, a coil voltage range of 250-500V AC/DC, and an overload relay rating of 7.6-10A.
