To select the appropriate starter, refer to the motor nameplate to verify the full load amperage (FLA) at the input voltage, confirming whether it is 1-phase or 3-phase power. Choose a starter rated for a current higher than the FLA. The control power used to close the contactor must be determined, and the overload should be selected to include the FLA range. Options for incoming power include direct-online starters, separate control voltage configurations, and remote start terminals that facilitate activation from an external switch.
