Springer Controls manufactures a complete line of IEC enclosed AC motor starters designed to handle loads up to 60HP or 80A. To select the proper starter for your application, start by referencing the motor or equipment nameplate to verify the full load amperage (FLA) at the supplied input voltage, noting whether the motor operates on single-phase or three-phase power. It is essential to choose a starter rated for current (amps) higher than the FLA of the motor. The control power needed to operate the contactor must also be determined. The overload relay should be selected based on a current range that includes the FLA identified earlier. Additional criteria to consider include the incoming power configuration, which can be a direct-online starter when line and control power are the same, or a separate control voltage if they differ. For activation from an external switch, options include remote start terminals.
