To select the proper starter for your requirements, first refer to the motor or equipment nameplate to verify the full load amperage (FLA) at the input voltage you will supply, confirming whether it is single-phase or three-phase power. Choose a starter rated for current (amps) higher than the FLA of your motor, select the control power used to close the contactor, and choose the overload by selecting a current range that contains the FLA of the motor. Optional criteria for selecting your starter include incoming power type, with options for direct-online starter if line power is used as control power, separate control voltage if the control voltage differs from line voltage, and remote start terminals for activation from an external switch.
