To select the appropriate starter, verify the full load amperage (FLA) from the motor or equipment nameplate and confirm if it is 1-phase or 3-phase power. Choose a starter with a current rating higher than the FLA, select the control power used to close the contactor, and then choose the overload by selecting a current range that encompasses the FLA. Optional criteria include incoming power configuration: "direct-online starter" if line power is used as control power, "separate control voltage" for different line and control voltages, or incorporating "remote start terminals" for activation from an external switch.
