Springer Controls manufactures a complete line of IEC enclosed AC motor starters up to 60 HP or 80 A. The assembled motor starters include a contactor, overload relay, and a NEMA 4X rated polycarbonate enclosure. The selection process for the proper starter involves verifying the full load amperage (FLA) from the motor or equipment nameplate at the supplied input voltage, confirming whether the power is single-phase or three-phase, and choosing a starter rated for current (amps) higher than the FLA of the motor. Additionally, one must select the control power used to close the contactor and choose the overload by selecting a current range that encompasses the FLA of the motor. Optional criteria for selecting the starter include deciding on incoming power, which can be classified as a "direct-online starter" if the line power is also used for control, or "separate control voltage" if different voltages are used. The starter may also have remote start terminals to accept control power input from an external switch. Key features of the motor starter include an 80 A capacity, three-phase functionality, remote start terminals, start/stop capability, a 250-500 V AC/DC coil, and a 75-87 A overload relay, all housed in a NEMA 4X polycarbonate enclosure.
