Springer Controls manufactures a complete line of IEC enclosed AC motor starters up to 60HP or 80A, which include an assembled motor starter consisting of a contactor, an overload relay, and a NEMA 4X rated polycarbonate enclosure. To select the appropriate starter, it is important to verify the full load amperage (FLA) at the input voltage from the motor or equipment nameplate, considering whether the power supply is single-phase or three-phase. The chosen starter must have a current rating higher than the FLA of the motor, and the control power for closing the contactor must also be determined. The overload must be selected from a current range that encompasses the FLA identified earlier, which narrows the starter options to those suitable for the specific requirements. Additional criteria for selection include whether the line power will also serve as control power, referred to as a "direct-online starter," or if separate control voltage is required. In cases where the starter is activated from an external switch, remote start terminals may be included, with configurations available for different line and control voltages.
