The Thhn 14 gauge building wire, stranded type, in orange is designed for various applications. Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 conductors are primarily utilized in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial settings as outlined in the 2008 National Electrical Code. As type THHN, this T90 nylon conductor is suitable for dry locations with a maximum temperature of 90 °C. When classified as type THWN-2 or TWN75, it can be used in both wet and dry environments, with temperature limits of 90 °C or 75 °C when exposed to oil. For type MTW, the conductor can be employed in wet locations or with oil exposure at up to 60 °C, or in dry settings at up to 90 °C (ampacity is restricted to that of a 75 °C conductor as per NFPA 79). It is rated for 600 volts and does not require pulling lubricant upon installation. The specifications ensure that the Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 or MTW (also AWM) wire meets or exceeds ASTM specifications, UL Standard 83, UL 1581, UL Standard 1063 (for MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE at 90 °C, and federal specification A-A-59544, along with National Electrical Code requirements. Certification includes VW-1 for sizes 14 through 1 AWG, CT for UL 1685 with sizes 1/0 AWG and larger, FT1 for sizes through 500 KCMIL, T90 nylon, and TWN 75 for sizes through 500 KCMIL, while being ROHS compliant and sunlight resistant, marked and listed in all colors for 2 AWG and larger. The construction features annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strand, insulated with a tough heat and moisture-resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and covered with a SIM (SlikQwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide).
