The Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 building wire is a stranded type 12 gauge conductor, available in black, designed for use in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications as per the 2008 National Electrical Code. When utilized as type THHN, the conductor is suitable for dry locations at temperatures not exceeding 90 °C, while type THWN-2 or TWN75 allows for use in both wet and dry locations at the same temperature limit, with an additional rating of 75 °C when exposed to oil. For MTW applications, the conductor can perform in wet locations or when exposed to oil at a maximum temperature of 60 °C, or in dry locations at 90 °C, with ampacity limited to that of a 75 °C conductor as specified by NFPA 79. The conductor can withstand temperatures up to 105 °C in dry environments when rated AWM or used as T90 nylon. The voltage rating for all applications is 600 volts, and no pulling lubricant is required for installation. The specifications indicate that the Southwire Simpull THHN® or THWN-2 or MTW meets or exceeds relevant ASTM specifications, UL standard 83, UL 1581, UL standard 1063 (MTW), CSA, CUL, NOM-ANCE 90 °C, and federal specification A-A-59544. Additionally, it complies with VW-1 for sizes 14 through 1 AWG, CT for sizes 1/0 AWG and larger, FT1 for sizes through 500 KCMIL, T90 nylon for sizes through 500 KCMIL, and TWN 75 for sizes through 500 KCMIL, being ROHS compliant and sunlight resistant, marked and listed in all colors for sizes 2 AWG and larger. The construction features annealed (soft) copper, unilay compressed strand insulation made from a durable heat and moisture resistant polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and is further protected by a SIM (Slikqwik® infused membrane) nylon (polyamide) or UL recognized equivalent.
