The Edwards 5540M Millennium central tone generator features a 55 tone capability without the need for additional tone modules, ensuring PLC compatibility and centralized programmable tone selection. With captive components and system-wide priority tone selection, it delivers high decibel signaling required for various applications. The unit produces 27 standard Adaptatone sounds, with the ability to activate four tones via field-wired normally open contacts or a 24VDC or 120VAC external voltage source such as a PLC output. Normally open contacts can be acquired from Cat. No. 5538-4 or Cat. No. 5538-4R Adaptatone signal actuators. Tone selection is achieved through miniature DIP switches within the unit, and programmed tones operate on a pyramid-type priority system. On-site volume control is conveniently accessible, allowing for adjustment inside the unit. Designed primarily for industrial applications that require microprocessor reliability and simultaneous signal delivery over all speakers, typical uses include emergency warning systems, plant evacuation alarms, security intrusion sirens, process monitoring, shift start-and-dismissal horns, and paging signals.
