The 3M Utility Cloth Roll measures 1-1/2" W x 50 yd and features aluminum oxide with a P220 grit. This roll allows for the desired length of the strip to be easily torn for specific applications. Most of the grades come with a light J-weight cloth backing, which provides the necessary flexibility to conform to circular edges, angles, or various contours. However, rolls graded P50 or P60 have a stiffer X-weight backing that is more suitable for coarse sanding tasks. The cloth is durable, maintaining integrity even when bent or rolled, and strips can be manually torn without affecting the sanding surface. Aluminum oxide is favored by industrial professionals due to its fast cut-rate and extended lifespan, producing a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose new cutting edges, unlike traditional natural abrasives that dull quickly. This abrasive is versatile and can be used on a variety of materials including ferrous alloys, non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic.
