The 3M utility cloth roll measures 1-1/2" W x 50 yd and features aluminum oxide abrasive with a P80 grit. This roll allows for customization as the desired length of the strip can be torn for specific applications. Most grades are built with a light, J-weight cloth backing that provides the flexibility necessary to conform to circular edges, angles, or other contours, while rolls in grades P50 or P60 feature a stiffer X-weight backing suitable for coarse sanding applications. The cloth is designed to remain durable even when bent or rolled without tearing or shelling, and strips can be easily torn by hand when a smaller piece is needed, maintaining the integrity of the sanding surface. Aluminum oxide is favored by industrial professionals for its fast cut-rate and long lifespan, making it a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, in contrast to traditional natural abrasives that dull more quickly. This abrasive is appropriate for a diverse range of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys, and can be utilized on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic.
