Chloroprene (CR), commonly known as "Neoprene," is a versatile synthetic elastomer developed by DuPont in 1931 through the emulsion polymerization of chloroprene. This material exhibits a favorable combination of properties, demonstrating excellent performance in contact with oils and various chemicals while providing resistance to sun, ozone, and weather conditions. Additionally, CR is noted for its remarkable toughness and good fire resistance. The cure system for standard CR includes sulfur curing with metal oxides and organic accelerators. The temperature range for this material is specified as standard low temperature at -40°C (-40°F) and standard high temperature at 100°C (212°F).
