Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also known as NBR or Buna N, is a widely utilized sealing elastomer renowned for its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants, coupled with its economical price. It consists of copolymers of acrylonitrile and butadiene, with variations in acrylonitrile content ranging from 18% to 50%. A lower acrylonitrile content yields improved low-temperature performance but diminishes resistance to fuels and polar lubricants, while a higher content enhances resistance at the cost of low-temperature properties; standard NBR typically has a 34% acrylonitrile content. The cure system for nitriles is generally sulfur-cured, offering better low-temperature properties despite a tendency to harden at elevated temperatures, whereas peroxide-cured nitriles provide superior heat resistance and lower compression sets, albeit at a higher cost and processing complexity. Nitrile rubber features a standard low-temperature range of -40°C (-40°F) and a high-temperature range up to 100°C (212°F).
