Ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) is a versatile copolymer of ethylene and propylene, often combined with a small amount of a third monomer, typically a diolefin, to allow for vulcanization with sulfur. This material exhibits excellent resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weathering, while maintaining good flexibility at low temperatures, good chemical resistance against many dilute acids, alkalis, and polar solvents, as well as effective electrical insulation properties. The kit includes both peroxide-cured and sulfur-cured standard EPDMs; while sulfur-cured compounds provide enhanced flexibility, they are more susceptible to hardening and display inferior compression set at elevated temperatures. Conversely, peroxide-cured EPDMs offer superior heat resistance and a lower compression set, making them suitable for prolonged use, particularly in hose systems within the construction industry, albeit at a higher production cost and complexity. The material operates effectively within a temperature range of -55°C (-67°F) for standard low temperatures and up to 125°C (257°F) for standard high temperatures.
