Product Details
Ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, and can also exist as a terpolymer of ethylene and propylene with a small amount of a third monomer, typically a diolefin, to facilitate vulcanization with sulfur. EPDM is distinguished by its exceptional resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weathering, alongside possessing good flexibility at low temperatures, chemical resistance to many dilute acids, alkalis, and polar solvents, and effective electrical insulation properties. The material can be cured using various systems; peroxide-cured standard EPDMs generally provide increased heat resistance and lower compression set compared to sulfur-cured variants, which tend to offer superior flexibility but exhibit a higher tendency to harden and an inferior compression set at elevated temperatures. EPDM is suitable for long-term applications, particularly in hose systems within the construction industry, though peroxide-cured EPDMs are more costly and complex to produce. The temperature range for standard applications is from -55°C (-67°F) for low temperatures to 125°C (257°F) for high temperatures.
