Product Details
Ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, often produced as a terpolymer by adding a small amount of a third monomer, typically a diolefin, which allows for vulcanization with sulfur. This material features excellent resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weathering, along with very good flexibility at low temperatures, good chemical resistance against many dilute acids, alkalis, and polar solvents, and effective electrical insulation properties. The cure system can be either peroxide-cured or sulfur-cured; sulfur-cured compounds provide better flexibility but are more prone to hardening and have an inferior compression set at high temperatures, while peroxide-cured EPDMs exhibit superior heat resistance and lower compression set. EPDM is particularly suitable for long-term applications in hose systems within the construction industry. The material can withstand a temperature range from -55°C (-67°F) to 125°C (257°F).
