Product Details
Ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, functioning as a terpolymer with a third monomer, typically a diolefin, to enable vulcanization with sulfur. EPDM is characterized by excellent resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weathering, along with very good flexibility at low temperatures, good chemical resistance to many dilute acids and alkalis, and effective electrical insulation properties. The cure system includes both peroxide-cured and sulfur-cured variants; peroxide-cured EPDMs provide superior heat resistance and a lower compression set, making them suitable for long-term applications, particularly in hose systems within the construction industry, although they are more challenging and costly to produce than sulfur-cured compounds. The temperature range for standard EPDM spans from -55°C (-67°F) to 125°C (257°F), ensuring its effectiveness in diverse environmental conditions.
