Product Details
Ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, and it also functions as a terpolymer when combined with a small amount of a third monomer, typically a diolefin, which allows for vulcanization with sulfur. This material is known for its excellent resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weathering, alongside possessing very good flexibility at low temperatures. It offers good chemical resistance to many dilute acids, alkalis, and polar solvents, as well as good electrical insulation properties. The cure system for EPDM includes peroxide-cured and sulfur-cured options; while sulfur-cured EPDMs provide superior flexibility, they are prone to hardening and generally exhibit inferior compression set at high temperatures. Conversely, peroxide-cured EPDMs offer enhanced heat resistance and a lower compression set, making them suitable for long-term applications, especially in hose systems used in the construction industry, although they tend to be more expensive and challenging to produce. The temperature range for standard EPDM is from -55°C (-67°F) for low temperatures to 125°C (257°F) for high temperatures.
