Product Details
Ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, functioning as a terpolymer when combined with a small amount of a third monomer, typically a diolefin, which allows for vulcanization with sulfur. EPDM exhibits excellent resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weathering, along with very good low-temperature flexibility, good chemical resistance to many dilute acids and alkalies as well as polar solvents, and effective electrical insulation properties. The cure system can vary, with peroxide-cured standard EPDMs typically being sulfur-cured, while sulfur-cured compounds provide better flexible properties but are more susceptible to hardening and have an inferior compression set at high temperatures. Conversely, peroxide-cured EPDMs offer superior heat resistance and a lower compression set, making them suitable for long-term applications, particularly in hose systems within the construction industry, although they come at a higher cost and are more challenging to produce. This material operates effectively within a temperature range of -55°C (-67°F) to 125°C (257°F).
