Ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, as well as a terpolymer of ethylene and propylene with a small amount of a third monomer, typically a diolefin, which allows for vulcanization with sulfur. This material is known for its excellent resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weathering, while also offering very good flexibility at low temperatures, good chemical resistance to many dilute acids and alkalies, and good electrical insulation properties. The cure system includes peroxide-cured EPDMs, which provide better heat resistance and lower compression set, and sulfur-cured compounds that exhibit better flexible properties but are more prone to hardening and have inferior compression set at high temperatures. The temperature range for EPDM is from -55°C (-67°F) for standard low temperatures to 125°C (257°F) for standard high temperatures.
