Product Details
Ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene and is characterized as a terpolymer by incorporating a small amount of a third monomer, typically a diolefin, to enable sulfur vulcanization. EPDM exhibits excellent resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weathering, alongside very good flexibility at low temperatures, superior chemical resistance to many dilute acids and alkalis, as well as polar solvents, and effective electrical insulation properties. The cure system for EPDM includes both peroxide-cured and sulfur-cured options; while sulfur-cured compounds provide better flexibility, they are more susceptible to hardening and display inferior compression set at elevated temperatures. Conversely, peroxide-cured EPDM offers enhanced heat resistance and lower compression set, making it ideal for long-term applications, particularly in hose systems within the construction industry, although it is more costly and challenging to produce than sulfur-cured variants. The temperature range for standard EPDM is from -55°C (-67°F) to 125°C (257°F).
