Product Details
Ethylene propylene rubber (EPDM) is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene, and it can also be classified as a terpolymer of ethylene and propylene with a small amount of a third monomer, typically a diolefin, which allows for vulcanization with sulfur. EPDM exhibits excellent resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weathering, along with very good flexibility at low temperatures, good chemical resistance to many dilute acids and alkalis, as well as polar solvents, and good electrical insulation properties. The cure system includes peroxide-cured and sulfur-cured options; sulfur-cured compounds generally provide better flexibility but are more susceptible to hardening and have a poorer compression set at elevated temperatures, while peroxide-cured EPDMs offer superior heat resistance and lower compression set characteristics, making them suitable for long-term use, particularly in hose systems within the construction industry, though they are more costly and challenging to produce. The material can withstand standard low temperatures down to -55°C (-67°F) and standard high temperatures up to 125°C (257°F).
