Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also known as NBR or Buna N, is a widely utilized sealing elastomer recognized for its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants, along with its affordability. Nitrile elastomers are copolymers composed of acrylonitrile and butadiene, with variations in acrylonitrile content ranging from 18% to 50%. Lower acrylonitrile content enhances low-temperature performance while compromising fuel and polar lubricant resistance, whereas higher acrylonitrile content improves resistance to fuels and polar lubricants but degrades low-temperature properties; standard NBRs typically feature 34% acrylonitrile content. The cure system for nitrile rubber can either be sulfur-cured or peroxide-cured, with sulfur-cured compounds providing better low-temperature performance yet being more susceptible to hardening at elevated temperatures, while peroxide-cured nitriles offer superior heat resistance and reduced compression sets, albeit at a higher cost and complexity in processing. The standard temperature range for nitrile elastomers is from -40°C (-40°F) for low temperatures to a maximum of 100°C (212°F) for high temperatures.
