Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also known as NBR or Buna N, is a widely utilized sealing elastomer recognized for its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants, alongside its cost-effectiveness. The material is a copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene, with variations available based on the acrylonitrile (ACN) content, which can range from 18% to 50%. A lower ACN content enhances low-temperature properties but diminishes resistance to fuels and polar lubricants, while a higher ACN content offers improved resistance at the expense of low-temperature performance, with standard NBR typically having 34% ACN. The cure system for these elastomers generally involves sulfur curing, which provides better low-temperature performance but can lead to hardening at elevated temperatures, whereas peroxide curing offers superior heat resistance and lower compression sets, albeit at a higher cost and increased processing difficulty. The standard temperature range for nitrile rubber extends from -40°C (-40°F) for low temperatures to a maximum of 100°C (212°F) for high temperatures.
