Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also known as NBR or Buna N, is a widely utilized sealing elastomer renowned for its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants, characterized by its affordability. Composed of copolymers of acrylonitrile and butadiene, nitrile elastomers exhibit variations based on acrylonitrile content, which can range from 18% to 50%. A lower ACN content enhances low-temperature performance while compromising resistance to fuels and polar lubricants, whereas a higher ACN content improves resistance to fuels and polar lubricants at the expense of low-temperature performance. Standard NBRs typically contain 34% ACN. The cure system of nitriles can be sulfur-cured or peroxide-cured; sulfur-cured compounds provide better low-temperature properties but may harden at high temperatures, whereas peroxide-cured nitriles offer superior heat resistance and lower compression sets, albeit at a higher processing cost. The temperature range for standard nitrile rubber is -40°C (-40°F) for low temperatures and up to 100°C (212°F) for high temperatures.
