Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also referred to as NBR or Buna N, is a widely utilized sealing elastomer recognized for its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants, along with its economical pricing. This elastomer is composed of copolymers of acrylonitrile and butadiene, which can exhibit various characteristics depending on their formulations. The acrylonitrile content can be adjusted between 18% to 50%; lower ACN percentages enhance low-temperature performance at the expense of fuel and polar lubricant resistance, while higher ACN levels improve resistance to these substances but compromise low-temperature performance, with standard NBR featuring approximately 34% ACN content. The cure systems employed include sulfur curing, which provides better low-temperature properties but is susceptible to hardening at elevated temperatures, and peroxide curing, which enhances heat resistance and reduces compression sets while presenting challenges in processing. The operating temperature range for standard nitrile rubber is from -40°C (-40°F) to 100°C (212°F).
