Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also known as NBR or Buna N, is a widely utilized sealing elastomer recognized for its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants, coupled with its relatively low cost. Nitrile elastomers are copolymers of acrylonitrile and butadiene, with variations in acrylonitrile content ranging from 18% to 50%. A lower ACN content enhances low-temperature properties but reduces resistance to fuels and polar lubricants, while a higher ACN content improves resistance to fuels and polar lubricants but diminishes low-temperature performance. Standard formulations typically contain 34% ACN. The cure system can vary, with sulfur-cured standard nitriles presenting better low-temperature properties, albeit with a tendency to harden at elevated temperatures. In contrast, peroxide-cured nitriles offer superior heat resistance and lower compression sets, albeit at a higher cost and processing difficulty. The standard operating temperature range for these elastomers extends from -40°C (-40°F) for low temperatures to 100°C (212°F) for high temperatures.
