Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also known as NBR or Buna N, is a widely utilized sealing elastomer notable for its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants, as well as its economical cost. Nitrile elastomers are copolymers composed of acrylonitrile and butadiene, with variations in acrylonitrile content ranging from 18% to 50%. Lower ACN percentages enhance low-temperature performance but reduce resistance to fuels and polar lubricants, while higher ACN concentrations improve fuel and polar lubricant resistance but decrease low-temperature flexibility, with standard NBRs commonly featuring a 34% ACN content. The cure system typically involves sulfur for standard nitriles, which provide better low-temperature properties but are more susceptible to hardening at elevated temperatures. Alternatively, peroxide-cured nitriles offer superior heat resistance and lower compression sets, albeit at a higher cost and increased processing complexity. This material has a standard temperature range, with a low-temperature capability of -40°C (-40°F) and a high-temperature resistance of 100°C (212°F).
