Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also known as NBR or Buna N, is a sealing elastomer renowned for its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants, marked by a relatively low cost. Composed of copolymers of acrylonitrile and butadiene, nitrile elastomers feature variations influenced by acrylonitrile (ACN) content, which can range from 18% to 50%. A standard NBR typically contains 34% ACN; lower ACN content enhances low-temperature performance while diminishing resistance to fuels and polar lubricants, whereas higher ACN content improves resistance at the cost of low-temperature properties. The cure system can be sulfur-cured, offering better low-temperature characteristics but increased susceptibility to hardening at elevated temperatures, or peroxide-cured, which provides superior heat resistance and lower compression sets but presents processing challenges. The operational temperature range for standard nitrile rubber spans from -40°C (-40°F) to a maximum of 100°C (212°F).
