Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also known as NBR or Buna N, is a widely used sealing elastomer renowned for its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants, as well as its cost-effectiveness. Nitrile elastomers are copolymers of acrylonitrile and butadiene, with variations in acrylonitrile content that can range from 18% to 50%. A lower acrylonitrile content results in better low-temperature properties but reduced resistance to fuels and polar lubricants, while a higher acrylonitrile content improves resistance to fuels and polar lubricants at the cost of lower low-temperature performance; standard NBRs typically have 34% acrylonitrile content. The cure system for standard nitriles is usually sulfur-cured, providing better low-temperature properties but increased susceptibility to hardening at high temperatures. Alternatively, peroxide-cured nitriles offer improved heat resistance and lower compression sets, although they are more costly and challenging to process. The standard temperature range for nitrile rubber extends from -40°C (-40°F) for low temperatures to a maximum of 100°C (212°F) for high temperatures.
