Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also known as NBR or Buna N, is extensively utilized as a sealing elastomer due to its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants. This material is a copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene, with variations in acrylonitrile content ranging from 18% to 50%. A standard NBR typically has an acrylonitrile content of 34%, providing a balance between low-temperature properties and resistance to fuels and polar lubricants. The cure system can vary, with sulfur-cured standard nitriles offering better low-temperature performance but increased susceptibility to hardening at elevated temperatures, while peroxide-cured nitriles boast superior heat resistance and lower compression sets but present challenges in processing. The temperature range for standard nitrile rubber is from -40°C (-40°F) for low temperatures to 100°C (212°F) for high temperatures.
